Sarah Kate Wilson

Miniaturing

Sarah Kate Wilson works across painting, performance, ceramics, print, tapestry and costume. Exhibited within her solo show at M2 Gallery are a series of maquettes and paintings made on holographic surfaces. Wilson often creates maquettes not just as a way of working out ideas for larger scale realisations, such as Sets for her painting performances, or structures to house her painting objects, but as works in their own right. At M2 her paintings and maquettes form miniature tableaux’s crystallised around subjects; shapeshifting, animal mimicry, atmospheric phenomena, the cosmos and the Earth’s history.

She has exhibited and staged performances at  Palais de Tokyo (Paris), BALTIC 39, (Newcastle), The Tetley, (Leeds), Newlyn Gallery, (Cornwall), Cevantes Institute, New Dehli, The Armory Centre, (California), APT Gallery London, Copperfield Gallery, London, The Royal Academy, London, Bauhaus Dessau (Germany) and The Museum of London. She completed her PhD in 2017 at the University of Leeds and received her MFA in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2010.
